What is a Bridging Open Work Permit?
A BOWP is a type of open work permit designed for people who have already applied for permanent residence and are waiting for a decision. "Open" means it isn't tied to a single employer, so you can generally keep working for most Canadian employers while your PR application moves through the system. It exists to bridge the gap between your temporary status and your permanent residence, hence the name.
Who is it for?
The BOWP is aimed at applicants who are already inside Canada on a valid work permit and have a permanent residence application in progress under an eligible economic class, such as Express Entry streams or certain provincial nominee pathways.
